August 9, 2018 (Mason)

We set our alarms for 5:30 a.m. so we could get to the slopes by 10:00 a.m. and have plenty of time to ski. We all got ready as fast as we could and ended up making it to the bus right on time. We almost missed it because John had to tie his shoe, but we ended up making it in time. When we loaded into the bus, the driver said that we needed to sit three in a seat. Given our competitive natures, we instantly rushed to the back of the bus. John, James, and I all ended up in the same seat while Ryan got into the seat next to us with this really smelly guy named Jerry. Jerry was very interesting but we tried not to let him distract us from our main focus, THE MOUNTAINS! They were gorgeous; the rocky sides leading up to an icy tip on top peaking at the magnificent sunrise. I wish I lived here.
We all just stared in awe at the magnitude of what we were witnessing and than Ryan goes, "Guys we're in ARGENTINA right now!" and we all just looked at him for a solid minute and then we started to get hype. I guess we just hadn't fully realized how awesome this trip truly was. A ways down the road we saw Cerro Caviahue in the distance, and it was amazing. The fresh, untouched powder covered the ground like a soft, thick blanket. We stepped off the bus lugging all of our gear and immediately felt a blast of icy cold air. As teenagers we were expected to complain about this but we all just had a blissful moment and didn't even care if our faces were about to fall off. We walked into the main building, bought our tickets, and glided into the locker room elated and ready to hit the slopes. We all quickly slipped into our water-proof gear and put on our boots. We all went to the bathroom quickly so we would only have to come in again for lunch and to leave. When we were done we walked outside and got another blast of cold air but this one felt fantastic after having to gear up in the microwave of a locker room. We immediately put on our skis and snowboards and headed to the chair lift.

(Sports)We found a chair lift that seated four people so we rode up the mountain on that one. When we got to the top it was frigid and all I wanted to do was fly down the mountain immediately but we all had to get a picture for our Instagram. We all took in a deep breath and took off down the slope. Soaring down the mountain is a feeling like no other, the adrenaline rush you get from it combined with the fast pace makes the perfect outcome. Once we finished the first run we all slid straight back into the first chair lift and found another route down the mountain. A while later we had our first chair stop and hang in mid-air for a couple minutes. During these minutes, I almost dropped a pole, John almost dropped his phone, and Ryan spit on a kid snowboarding below us. After we got out of the chair and down the mountain, we all decided we were hungry and went down to eat at the lodge. We all got two hot dogs, chips, and a water bottle. We skied and snowboarded for another four hours and had to leave at 5 p.m. We took the four hour bus ride back to the hotel and arrived at 9:00 p.m. We picked up McDonald's on the way back and chowed down at the hotel before we eventually fell asleep after chilling on our phones for a little bit.
